At the recent UTribe festival, the newly established Music Association of the Sunshine Coast (MASC) provided the venue for a parliament of especially home spun sound. On a mission from the planet groove, the MASC collective has been actively supporting and showcasing Sunny Coast talent for some months in a bid to beam down local flavoured line-ups to a venue near you. Their portable stage on wheels set up proudly brought UTribe audiences vibes from a different dimension.
Project collaborators Harii Bandhu and Khan rocked the space early in the scene with some expert sets. Professional elements glued the lid tight on sound and lights, making for some forest-set finery and delivery deeply dug by appreciative crowds. Festival favourites, A French Butler Called Smith were also on the MASC invite list; a favour which they returned in kind with raucous gypsy jamming and frolicking debauchery. Their highly danceable set saw moi at one point showing her French knickers to all and sundry..... Non Je Ne Regrette Rien.
If the MASC guys and girls can put a foot wrong, I’ll eat my space-helmet. Right now they seem to be scoping the scene from elevated heights of perception and providing a much-needed portal for Sunny Coast sounds.
The key focus of MASC is to unify the Sunshine Coast music industry at a time when all sorts of issues are affecting where musicians can actually perform. ....artistic expression feeds the soul of any community. Music and art go a long way toward creating harmony on all sorts of levels in society. We aim to increase this community's awareness of its own current, huge, artistic/musical fraternity whilst creating an entity that encourages and sustains our home grown established and upcoming young artists. To do this we will find alternative venues such as halls, club rooms and private properties. MASC will aim to run regular events that create work for musicians. Work for musicians ultimately means work for production staff, promoters, bar staff, security etc. MASC itself will run as a not-for-profit organisation however everyone involved in MASC events will be paid.
