Silverstein have always been thereabouts when it comes to the post-hardcorish genres. Always being noticed but never commanding the respect of a must see band, as they floated through a sea of often generic and uninspiring bands. This effort however catapults them to the forefront of the genre as they put their hands up to be counted. A concept album of sorts, A Shipwreck in the Sand tells the story of betrayal, arson, infidelity and love across four chapters. Silverstein demonstrate a much wider array of songwriting devices than ever before as the album swings from beautiful melodies into brutal rhythms that perfectly encompass the heartfelt lyrics. This is capped off with guest vocals by Liam from Cancer Bats and Scott from Comeback Kid. Whilst it may not be genre defining or truly groundbreaking, this record certainly stands out from the rest.
