Put simply, this is one of the best live albums I have heard or seen. John Mayer always delivers a live experience to remember, and with the separate CD and DVD release of ‘Where the Light Is’, he takes the listener right there. The album and DVD present themselves in a three-part show with an acoustic set, a trio set and a band set all filmed and recorded across one night. The sets are broken up with footage from backstage and Mayers’ daily life, which paints an explicit picture of the man behind the guitar. The recording quality is fantastic and flawless, with each set delivering a unique sound quality as more instruments are added to the mix. For those who haven’t seen this man perform, the DVD would be a better choice than the album as his facial contortions while singing are exceptionally entertaining, even without sound. ‘Where the Light Is’ is a live spectacle overflowing with musical genius, frenzied vigour and some very enlightening interviews with Mayer that elevate it above merely being a filmed live show (Vivienne).
