1 GIANT LEAP
What About Me?
(One World Music)
9/10

Rarely do you take much more away from a movie or television series than a little short-lived entertainment value. Well, prepare to be enlightened. The second project for UK based producers/film makers 1 Giant Leap will leave viewers pondering life’s big questions and insights long after the film and seven-part series double DVD is over. On this trans-global film making/music recording mission, Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman visited over 50 locations worldwide exploring the complexities of human nature and interaction through music. With appearances from the cream of the world’s thinkers, entertainers and writers, such as Michael Franti, Tim Robins, Billy Connolly, Michael Stripe (R.E.M.) and Maxi Jazz, ‘What About Me?’ takes music and philosophy and melds them together so beautifully it’s hard to separate what has more of an impact - the messages or the music. At the heart of this project is the music that Jamie and Duncan make. It all starts with a simple, pre-composed backing track, which then takes shape as layers are added from different musicians in different parts of the world. The film focuses more on what they call “our collective insanity”, with the music supporting the messages and ideas being discussed, while the seven part series follows the guys around the world as they put the music together. Very touching and inspiring stuff (LukeD).
