ASH GRUNWALD
Fish Out of Water
(Shock)
8.5/10

Melbourne’s Ash Grunwald has returned with an uplifting release unlike previous albums. ‘Fish Out of Water’ is best described as a hybrid of mashed-up blues and beats with heavy doses of soul and hip-hop. The change of direction for the Aria award-winning bluesman came about after a song writing session with TZU’s Countbounce. The two hit it off and ended up co-writing five tracks and producing this latest independent release. The 12-track album is full of rocky guitar solos and groovy beats to get you movin’ ya thing. Highlights include the grungy opening track ‘Can U Find A Way’ (with a great guitar solo at the end), foot-stomping ‘Fish Out of Water’, ‘Breakout’ and the delicate, haunting sounds of ‘Port Campbell’. This vintage-sounding gem of an album is sure to be a career highlight for Ash. Make sure you get your hands on it so you are ready for the national tour kicking off in August (NicolaK).
