A STORM OF LIGHT
And We Wept the Black Ocean Within
(Neurot)
8.5/10
With this mighty debut album A Storm of Light have commenced their career with a rolling start. Neurosis’ masterful visual director Josh Graham heads the group of well-seasoned artists, so it’s no wonder this instantly comes across as the work of an already accomplished unit. As if originating from the deep murky waters of the haunting cover art, every song comes drenched in a dark ambiance that sits as a vast landscape for the oppressive doom-riffs to roam, whilst also working as an integral factor in unifying the whole. While upon the initial listen comparisons could easily be made to any number of the post-metal elite, further listening of the contemplative variety will unearth a host of reasons to keep following this glorious project (Jake 3).
